South Africa in the grip of the World Cup

With South Africa in the grip of the World Cup fever and the games already begun, all doubts about the country’s readiness to host the tournament has dissipated into thin air. The already visible world-class, African inspired stadia around the country and the new road infrastructure bears testimony about the country’s ability to host events of global magnitude.

With Johannesburg chosen as the host city for the opening and closing matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and an estimated 350 000 visitors expected to visit South Africa during the hosting of the tournament, Joburg Market wish to add its voice that “we are ready” to ensure that the tournament is held under a food secure environment and that the nutritional needs of the plethora mass of football supporters who will descend on our city and country are met.

Johannesburg is the only host city with two 2010 FIFA World Cup™ stadia. Thus, it is anticipated that Joburg Market will serve as the main hub for many participants in the hospitality industry from where fresh produce would be procured for the duration of the soccer tournament.

The Joburg Market through its parent shareholder and 2010 FIFA World Cup™ host city, the City of Joburg, is proud to be associated with this important global event and wish to echo its voice that “We are ready”!
