Joburg Market helps cyclist replenish energy in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge
Cyclists help themselves to fruits at the Joburg Market Fruit Zone at the finishing point
The Joburg Market was the fruit zone sponsor for the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge for the second year running.
The race took place on Sunday 20 November and started at 5:30 in the morning on the R55 just before Maxwell Drive and finished at the Waterfall Country Estate in Kyalami.
The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge is staged annually and attracts over 25 000 cyclist ranging from professional cyclists, Olympic cyclist hopefuls, sports fanatics and those riding for charity.
While the cloudy conditions on the day didn't save the cyclists from the searing heat, the Joburg Market fruit zones did provide some respite for the cyclists from the gruelling race.
Overall, there were six (6) Joburg Market fruit zones dispersed along the route including the finishing zone.
Amongst the fruit made available to the cyclist was the banana, known for its rich in calories, but very low in fats.
The banana fruit contains good amounts of health benefiting anti-oxidants, minerals, and vitamins. It is composed of soft, easily digestible flesh with simple sugars like fructose and sucrose that when eaten replenishes energy and revitalizes the body instantly. Owing to these qualities, the banana was thus the fruit of choice for the cyclists to get instant energy.
