The Joburg Market retained its fourth (4th) position as South Africa’s Best Employers in the 2011/12 HR best practice research conducted by the Corporate Research Foundation (CRF) Institute.
BEST Employers™ South Africa is run annually to identify, accredit and laud South African companies that demonstrate commitment and excellence in people management across 11 key areas of HR best practice.
The award ceremony took place at a glittering function in Sandton Sun Hotel on 24 August 2011.
Overall, there are four sub-categories in the research. These being the Best Empowered Employers category, small size company, medium and large, based on the number of fulltime employees. Companies in the small-size category are those that employ 1 to 300 people; medium are those with staff of 301 to 4 000 and large are those that have a labour force of more than 4 000.
The Joburg Market featured in 2 categories, namely: Best Small-Sized Employers and the Best Empowered Employers.
The Joburg Market retained its number 4 ranking in the top 10 small-size BEST EmployersTM category which comprised the likes of Coca-Cola, Cisco Systems South Africa, Hilti and The South African National Roads Agency Limited.
In the top 10 Empowered Employers category, which comprised the likes of MTN, SAP South Africa, Microsoft SA, Vodacom and Telkom, the Joburg Market was ranked number 6, moving up from position 10 the previous year.
Thomas Mawasha, the Joburg Market Head of Marketing and Communications says, “This is a remarkable showing given that the company outperformed blue chip companies with bigger budgets. The ranking demonstrates the seriousness with which the organisation take issues of organisational strategy, leadership, communication, corporate social responsibility, talent management and employee engagement, including employee training and development”.
Participation in the BEST Employers™ South Africa is voluntary and companies that take part in the annual accreditation project do so because of the active and passionate development of their brand.
With CRF's internationally recognised stamp of accreditation, accredited companies have a strategic platform to effectively benchmark and communicate their esteemed employer brand locally and internationally.
