Sello Mashilwane
Mashilwane is the Shared Services Executive at the Joburg Market and holds a B Tech in Human Resources from the Tshwane University of Technology. He also holds a Masters Degree in Local Government.
As head of Shared Services he is tasked with the responsibility of supporting core business at the Joburg Market by providing effective Human Resources support, Information Technology support as well as legal and general administration support.
Sello was crowned 2009HR Director of the year for excellent people management by Institute of People Management.
His other career highlights was being selected as an international accredited Human Resources practitioner and gaining international experience by working in various states within the United States of America. He also completed a post graduate qualification in Training and Development in England.
Sello´s life philosophy centres on people having a sense of purpose to guide their day-to-to attitude. He reads a lot of political literature and is crazy about seafood.
Jan Gideon Mocke
As Executive of Market of the Future, Jan Mocke is responsible for managing new capital projects. His portfolio includes planning, budgeting and project management of the Market of the Future including overseeing the building of warehouse facilities and new state-of-the-art technology to dramatically increase the quality of produce sold.
Jan holds a BSc Engineering - Electron Degree from the University of Pretoria and an MBL from UNISA and his life philosophy is to always do what is right. He aptly applies this principle in his responsibilities at the Joburg Market.
Jan spent more than 15 years at Sapeko Tea Estates in Tzaneen and held the position of General Manager at the time that he left. He also worked for the Industrial Development Corporation.
Jan enjoys outdoor life and his hobbies include microlite flying and scuba diving.
Cynthia Moji
As Chief Financial Officer, Cynthia is responsible for directing and managing the Finances of Joburg Market. Her portfolio includes Property, Cashiering, Supply Chain and Financial management.
Cynthia holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from the University of Limpopo, a Bachelor of Business Administration Honours and a Masters of Business and Administration from the University of Stellenbosch.
Cynthia brings a wealth of experience in the accounting field to Joburg Market, having worked in both private and public sectors.
She is not a stranger to the Agricultural sector, having started her career at the Department of Agriculture in Limpopo where she established an office that managed and provided financial advice to women farmer co-operatives.
Her next appointment was at Langeberg Food Processors, a canning factory for fruit and vegetables in Boksburg where she was employed as an Accountant responsible for accounts payables, asset management and receivables.
Her quest for growth led her to join Telkom where she worked as a financial manager responsible for revenue management for Telkom Subsidiaries, Financial Reporting and Capital Budget.
She later became part of the first group of Senior Managers that joined City Power from its inception in 2001. She contributed in building and shaping the Finance Group at City Power. Some of the highlights of her career include having led City Power to achieve a clean audit in the 2007/08 financial year when she was the acting Chief Financial Officer.
Cynthia has a passion for skills development and training. She believes that one of the greatest gifts to offer to working teams is knowledge and continuous personal development.
A stable family is important to her; she prefers spending time off with her family.
Patrick Mphahlele
Academic qualifications: Masters Degree Agric Sciences
Position: Acting COO, Responsible for commercial services, Infrastructure and Maintenance.
Patrick joined the Joburg Market as Senior Manager SHERQ in 2005 to oversee activities in the sections Consignment control, security, OHSA, and Quality control. He was transferred to commercial services as a senior manager later in 2006. The position means Patrick had direct responsibility for the profitable operation of the three trading halls, colds stores and banana ripening facilities. In 2008 he was then appointed as Acting COO with extra responsibility on infrastructure development and maintenance.
Patrick is no rookie in the Agricultural sector having started his career as an Extension Officer for the department of Agriculture, a job he did for 13 years. In the 13 years he was also studying towards post graduate degree in the same field of agriculture and that saw him graduating with Hons Agricultural Sciences at UP. In 1990 he was awarded a scholarship to do a six weeks course in Israel around the economic analysis and management of agricultural projects.
The next interesting chapter of his career and academic advancements started in 2000 when he joined the PPECB (Perishable Products Export Control Board) as an inspector for all fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, canned fruits and vegetables and Pre-trip of refrigerated containers and refrigerated motor transport. These responsibilities were executed as per PPECB Act and Agricultural Product Standard Act. While these were happening Patrick was also completing his Masters degree with UP, on Alternaria rot of citrus using bacteria as biological control agents. He also received certificates as auditor for HACCP, Global GAP and ISO 9001, quality and food safety management systems. In his first three years at PPECB he was promoted to Service Manager for Gauteng Region, a position that saw him overseeing all the activities in the region and making sure that as a Region, Gauteng is profitable.
Dawood Peterson
Dawood started his employment at the Joburg Market in December 2008 as a legal advisor responsible for the litigious and contractual matters of the company. He was subsequently appointed as the Company Secretary, of which he is responsible for acting as the link between the company’s Board of Directors and the management and facilitating good relationships with the Shareholder. In addition, he is accountable for the general administration of the company, more specifically to ensure compliance with good corporate governance practices and to provide guidance to the Board of Directors on corporate governance principles and applicable legislation.
Dawood is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and holds a L.L.B from the University of the Western Cape. He also has two graduate diplomas, one in International Business Transactions and Contemporary Developments in International Human Rights obtained from University of the Western Cape in conjunction with Howard University School of Law, Washington D.C and the other one in Practical Legal Training from School for Legal Practice, University of Cape Town. In his spare time, Dawood enjoys biking and reading African literature.
